The Women Entrepreneurship (WEP) Training Program in Buikwe District is a targeted socio-economic initiative executed under the GROW project (Generating GROW Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises).It is implemented by the KBN Helping Hands and Wellness Foundation in partnership with the Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET).The training is part of a broader World Bank-funded Government of Uganda Initiative through the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development(MGLSD) . It ensures that women entrepreneurs transitioning from informal micro-businesses to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are protected by a strong understanding of their rights and community safety nets.
KBN Helping Hands and Wellness foundation utilizes a comprehensive “wrap-around” approach designed to empower female entrepreneurs by addressing both the business growth and the social barriers that impede women’s economic advancement.
The core pillars of the Training Program include;
Socio-Cultural Transformation: Through this pillar, KBN Helping Hands and Wellness Foundation mainly focuses on shifting negative social norms, attitude and community practices that restricts women from controlling assets, making business decisions or expanding their enterprises.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Mitigation: The organization educates women entrepreneurs on the prevention of domestic and economic violence, which frequently escalates as women gain financial independence.
GBV Referral Pathways: This majorly equips women with practical knowledge on how to safely report abuse and access medical, legal and psychosocial support through institutional response channels.
Financial Literacy: Through financial literacy KBN delivers hands-on training in core business skills, including budgeting, saving, separating personal from business finances and managing credit responsibly.
Human Rights Advocacy: The organization sensitizes women on their fundamental legal rights, economic entitlements and land ownership rights to reduce vulnerability and foster self-advocacy.
