KBN Helping Hands and Wellness Foundation implements its Women and Girls Program in Uganda through community activism, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, social economic advocacy, education retention and economic self-reliance. Recognizing that gender inequality and violence severely limit the potential of women and youth, the foundation deploys aggressive grassroots activism to challenge harmful cultural norms and patriarchal structures. By establishing community-led surveillance networks, safe spaces, and legal sensitization workshops, the initiative works to prevent GBV before it occurs, while providing survivors with critical psychosocial support and advocacy. This protective framework ensures that women and girls can live free from intimidation, reclaiming their fundamental rights and bodily autonomy within their communities.
The organization delivers this program through several focused initiatives;
Socio-economic independence campaigns: The organization advocates for women’s independence within families and relationships. It actively pushes for increased female access to financial resources and equitable decision-making power in public and the workplace.
Advocacy: KBN leverages major human rights timelines, such as participating in the global I6 Days of Activism to prevent violence against women and girls at Makerere University to publicly campaign against domestic violence, discrimination and workplace harassment.
The women Agro-farm project: The organization establishes grassroots agricultural hubs to transform rural women from subsistence growers into profitable agribusiness entrepreneurs and mainly centers its operations in deep rural outposts-such as its flagship hub in Semuto-Sumbwe, Bulemezi within the Nakaseke District to intentionally target and elevate vulnerable rural house wives.
School retention and care support: KBN actively mobilizes community resources to keep vulnerable girls in school by working to provide essential requirements like scholastic materials, school fees and emotional support to navigate trauma.
Rights and independence workshops: The foundation organizes educational forums focused on teaching women about their fundamental human rights. These workshops focus heavily on promoting female independence within relationships and families.
Lady thrive initiative: KBN Helping Hands and Wellness Foundation through the Lady Thrive Initiative provides small short-term loans to women particularly in rural or informal sectors for example in Buikwe and Wakiso Districts to support income-generating activities. Designed majorly for financial empowerment, these micro-loans promote entrepreneurship for women with limited access to traditional banking often featuring group based flexile repayment term.
Promoting future autonomy: The foundation conducts workshops aimed at promoting personal independence within families and future relationships, encouraging girls to actively participate in community decision making.
