opportunity to acquire skills

Youth Empowerment Program

Youths have a promising future which can help our country to develop and achieve economic stability.

How we do it

At KBN Helping Hands and Wellness Foundation, we run a youth training Program (project development) that covers various areas

Improved education

Through improved education, we equip youths in different communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in life hence enabling them to contribute to their communities in meaningful ways whereas provide them with educational opportunities in various schools and higher institutions of learning. Provision of education to our youths has enabled them to access better job opportunities, higher salaries and improved their standards of living which has also promoted social cohesion amongst youths in our communities hence reducing inequality.

Skills development

We equip youths with life skills that make them independent thinkers and instil vital leadership skills that help them excel in whatever profession they choose. Our curriculum based on skills helps to instil emotional maturity in them hence enabling them to develop a growth mindset as they try new things in their communities.

Employment creation

we work as a team to create job opportunities for our youths basing on their life skills. This helps to reduce crime rates and misuse of drugs in the community. Creating employment for youths in our communities lowers unemployment and hence reducing the poverty rate leading to financial stability.

Health and wellbeing

Our youth empowerment staff empowers youths in the community towards better health through supportive environments. We promote good health and wellbeing through health education, advocacy, mediation, community development, enablement and research. We ensure health lives and promote wellbeing for the vulnerable youths in the society.

Self-efficacy

Our youth empowerment staff, promotes task accomplishment and success by building concepts gradually for youths in our communities and ensures success at each step. We foster a co-operative social environment rather than a competitive atmosphere and allow youths to work together always encouraging them to build on one another's responses thus helping each other. This helps them to believe in their capabilities so as to achieve outcome s hence boosting their confidence. Self-efficacy helps our youths to recover quickly from set -backs hence achieving their personal goals.

Our Stories

From Grass to Grace

Katusabe Kenneth and friends

We have an objective to work together and encourage each other through expressing our minds and building on one another’s responses. Conflicts over land between the two families, led to a breakup of my family (Kenneth’s family). At the age of 12 years in a small village of kayunga, my parents parted ways due to land disputes and we were forced to vacate our home in an unlawful manner. After the incident, my mother and father went separate ways because they didn’t have any money left to find shelter for us.

I (Kenneth) was thrown out to the streets at a very young age and started facing life alone. At that time, I decided to look out for my fellow peers and joined their groups in order to earn a living. Growing up on the street negatively impacted my health both mentally and physically which  generally deteriorated because of improper hygiene, dirty environments and lack of proper nutrition.

I faced a mental breakdown which was caused by rejection, stigmatization and abandonment hence contributing negatively to my mindset. At the beginning of my youthful stage, life continued to become hard and harder for me and my peers on the streets and at a certain point temptations of getting engaged into unlawful acts in order to earn a living continued to accumulate in our minds.

We wanted to transform our lives positively but we did not know where to start from until we met a team through the Youth Empowerment Program from KBN Helping Hands and Wellness foundation. Since we joined this program, our lives have changed drastically.

Through their curriculum to skill development we expressed our interests in carpentry. KBN has therefore gone ahead to empower us with skills and capital to start our carpentry project.

We are now doing very well. KBN helping hands and wellness foundation is really excited about the skills we have acquired and therefore we dream of growing and expanding our project. We are earning an income and we can support our families to purchase basic necessities. We therefore thank our sponsors through the youth Empowerment Program who have enabled our youths to develop a growth mindset as they try new things in their communities.
