Our WASH partners work with communities through their local leaders, empower them and build good relationships within communities to help them create healthy living conditions.
We implement rain water harvesting systems used to collect and also store rain water for drinking. In some areas, we build wells to extract ground water from underground aquifers. We also provide home water treatment capability through the use of filters to make drinking water safe.
We promote latrine construction and use in the rural communities both public and household latrines to prevent the spread of disease such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and fever. We work hand in hand with communities and encourage people who have resources to construct their own household latrines.
We promote good hygiene habits through education. We encourage people to adopt good hygiene behaviours for example proper hand-washing with soap and water for at least 30 seconds to prevent spread of disease, bathing or showering, wearing clean clothes, avoiding sharing personal items, brushing and flossing teeth, caring for nails and keeping their home clean.
